CSRC produces furnace black in granular form through the
cracking, dehygrogenation and nucleation of hydrocarbons. This product is a reinforcement
agent which is indispensable to the rubber industry, and is widely used in rubber
products. By the reinforcement it can increase the modulus, stiffness and abrasive
resistance of the elastomer. The reinforcement mainly results from the carbon gel
formation, carbon gel is formed through the creation of an infinite network structure
by the carbon black and elastomer molecules; the strength of this crosslinked network
structure determines the characteristics of the elastomer matrix. Since the reinforcement
action is derived from the molecular interaction of carbon black with elastomer,
the particle properties of carbon black are very important, including particle size,
DBP structure, moisture content, tinting strength, pH and volatile content. Therefore,
it can be classified as ISAF, HAF, FEF, GPF or SRF grades depending on processing
requirements.
